It had been raining on and off all day. Around rush hour it started pouring. One of my drivers in an 18-wheeler lost control and rear ended a little compact, before jack-knifing and hitting another truck in the oncoming lane. It was a mess. When my mechanic found a bag of cocaine in one of our trucks, I confronted the driver. He denied it was his, but I had no choice but to fire him on the spot. I told him that if he came back with proof that he’d received treatment and was clean I’d consider rehiring him. Instead he came back with a lawyer and sued me for “wrongful” termination.
